drainage status

Drained peatlands are classified as recently drained peatlands, transitional peatlands and drained peatland forests. On recently drained peatlands, drainage has not yet affected the ground vegetation or increment of the growing stock. Peatlands where ditch clogging has restored the peatland to its original state are also classified as recently drained peatlands. On transitional peatlands, drainage has had a positive effect on the growing stock, but the ground vegetation still consists mainly of mire vegetation. On drained peatland forests, the ground vegetation resembles vegetation in mineral soil forests, and the growing stock is no longer suffering from excess water suffering from excess water.
